capital volunteers

"God has given gifts to each of you from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Manage them well so that God's generosity can flow through you." (1 Peter 4:10, NLT)

Volunteer

Sharing your gifts through volunteering and service is an important part of the journey at Capital. So what do we consider is a gift? Sure, it's some specific skills like knowing how to make a Cafe Latte, write Preschool curriculum or arrange Powerpoint slides - but it's also more simply (but no less importantly) having the patience to sooth a tired baby, to offer a smile when someone walks in the door on a Sunday morning or to just have that knack for knowing just when to turn the lights down. Volunteers fuel Capital's engine and serving is a part of being a part of the family. As an organization we place no greater value than on our volunteer force and as a part of the Kingdom of God we ask you to trust in the Lord's request to serve Him by giving of the gifts given to you. Please consider getting involved in one of the ministries listed below and send an email to volunteer@capitalchurch.com to dive in!

capital kiddos

While the service is happening in the main meeting room, a whole other adventure is occurring beneath the stage! Capital children are singing, crafting, snacking, making friends and learning about our Lord. Children are our greatest asset, and because of that, we need people committed to caring for God's littlest ones and helping to facilitate their spiritual and social development. Children's classes include: Nursery (0 - 18 months), Toddler (18 - 36 months), Preschool (age 3 - 5), K - 3rd grade, and Starz (4th, 5th and 6th grade). Children's volunteers arrive 15 minutes early to greet children and parents. Teachers and Assistants are assigned to the age group of their choice. The curriculum is already prepared and set, volunteers are asked to love our kids and deliver the message! Most volunteers commit to once per month, but schedules can be adjusted accordingly.

powerpoint posse & sound squad

As any Capital attendee knows, watching the Powerpoint that accompanies each week's message is helpful, heartwarming and at times, hysterical! The "PPT" team facilitates participation in worship and in the message by maneuvering the all-important slides and ensuring everyone gets more out of the teaching. No Geeksquad badge required! You will need to arrive 45 minutes prior to the service to walk through the music lyrics, announcements and teaching slides. During the service, you will ensure that the proper slides are displayed. This position does not require any development of slides, just the execution of the presentation. Computer skills are necessary, but training is provided in the Powerpoint program.

cafe crew

Our Capital Cafe is a popular area where important social interaction occurs each week. The Cafe plays a critical role in the atmosphere at Capital as it is a chance to relax and commune with one another. No, you do not have to know how to make a skinny soy mochachino latte. Yes, you do need to wear an apron and have fun! Lead Baristas arrive one hour prior to the service to begin preparation and set-up. Assistants arrive 25 minutes prior to the service. Baristas and Assistants serve guests prior to the beginning of the service and during intermission as well as handle clean-up after the service. There is also a need for Interim Assistants who will help refill ice and press-pots during the rush between 10:15am and 11:00am. A love of the fresh brewed bean is suggested!

first impressions (welcome) team

The greeting team plays an important role in making sure that Capital is a place where everybody knows your name! You will be the first encounter someone has with Capital, the first step in establishing an environment where spiritual growth and community can take place. You can expect to serve once a month and arrive approximately 20 minutes prior to the service. You'll be posted at one of the doors to distribute a hot-off-the-press bulletin to guests as they arrive. Don't forget to say good morning and smile! Along with other welcome hosts, you will assist with the collection of the offering.

prayer team

Our Lord asks us not only to listen to Him, but to speak to Him. Come breathe deep and spend some time in a safe environment in prayer with others and with the Lord. Meets Thursday mornings at 9am at Capital.
