Going through pain is inevitable. Growing through it is optional.

The Greek word for “race” in Hebrews 12:1-3 implies agony – that our race will be grueling and require endurance & perseverance. Indeed, throughout scripture, we’re told that suffering is a certainty in life. Without invalidating our pain, scripture also invites us to consider it pure joy when we face trials. It is in these times of trial that God might be working in you, even if he’s not working around you the way you might like. Instead of seeking the cause of suffering, seek out the growth that suffering may be causing within you. Going through pain is inevitable, but growing through it is optional.

Other texts in this message: Hebrews 12:1-2, Proverbs 25:20, James 1:1-4, 1 Peter 4:12, Psalm 119:71, 1 Peter 1:6-7, Proverbs 17:3
