Unexpected Ways
Expect God to reveal himself in unexpected ways.
What is the least likely way you expect God to reveal himself to you this season? If you were to guess how God would to reveal the power and majesty of Jesus to the world, you might imagine something large and awe inspiring like moving mountains or parting seas. Yet the first miracle we see from Jesus comes in the form of creating wine from water at a wedding. How does Jesus helping newlyweds reveal his glory? When Jesus does what he does in Cana, it wouldn’t take people very long to connect the dots about his identity. This wedding gift in the form of a miracle fulfilled many Old Testament promises of what we could expect from the Messiah. But remember what we learned about the concept of glory in John’s Gospel: the glory of Jesus is most fully and perfectly observed when we see him on the cross. He could have chosen a throne of wood and gold but he chose a throne of wood and nails. Why?
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 NIV
Did you know this about God? He wants you to know him first and foremost for his sacrificial love for you. If that’s surprising to you, get used to the feeling and expect God to reveal himself in unexpected ways.
