“For God So Loved This World?!?”

Message Date
July 16, 2017
  • Primary Text
    Genesis 38:1-29
Listen to the Audio Version:

For God So Loved This World?!?

Christ came not for people who deserve him, but for people who need him.
Joseph was raised in a dysfunctional family, abused by his brothers, sold into slavery, and falsely accused and imprisoned—all before the age of thirty. The evidence was stacked to conclude that God was not with him or near him—or even on his side. But despite being punished, an innocent victim of fear and fault, he finds out God is actually closer than he thinks. Join us for a series on the life of Joseph, and let his tangled, tender story color your own.

Homework

It’s a familiar verse but perhaps this week’s message gives us new perspective on the truth of God’s love. For God so loved the world. The world of Matthew 1 and Genesis 38. God so loved THIS world. This messy, broken world. For God so loved YOU. To the person who has made a wreck of his life: God says “I love you”. To the person who is slow to learn from her mistakes, the person born on the wrong (or right) side of the tracks: God says “I love you”. This is the God you are praying to, and this is the God you are ignoring. He gave everything not because you deserved it, none of us do! But because we need Him.
