Putting Money in its Place

Generosity puts money in its rightful place so we can put God in his rightful place.
How do you feel about money? Do thoughts of your wealth or the wealth you desire fuel your decisions and plans for your future? What we think about money and possessions radically affects the way we live and love. How we feel about stuff, more than almost anything in the world, influences the way we relate to God and others.

What do you prize most? What would you hate to lose? What consumes your time, your thoughts, and your energy? Ask yourself today, what do you treasure?

Throughout scriptures, money itself is rarely cited as the problem. When we put our trust in money, when we idolize money, we surrender the power over our hearts to money. If your relationship with money is managing your life, maybe it’s time to manage your money differently.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus describes the life of His followers. He declares that those who live in tune with what God is doing on the Earth are generous people. His disciples don’t just give, they naturally give. They joyfully give. Why is it so imperative to infuse natural giving into who we are as disciples?

Generosity puts money in its rightful place, so we can put God in His rightful place.
