The Last Word
Reading a novel or watching a TV series is a huge time and emotional commitment. As we experience the ups and downs of the characters, we become more invested in them and more intertwined with them until their story becomes more and more our story. This is why, no matter how good the rest of the story is, we feel so let down by bad ending. We protest, “That can’t be how it ends! Those can’t be the final words of the story!”
This Easter, we look ahead to the end of our story. We look to eternity. We rejoice in the hope that the resurrection of Jesus means neither sin, nor shame, nor sickness, nor death is the end of the story. They don’t get the last word. Jesus does.
Homework
Don’t wait for heaven to experience heaven.
Dallas Willard – “The gospel is not about getting people into heaven. It’s about getting heaven into people.”
Apprentice yourself to Jesus.
John Mark Comer – “Apprenticeship to Jesus—that is, following Jesus—is a whole-life process of being with Jesus for the purpose of becoming like him and carrying on his work in the world. It’s a lifelong journey in which we gradually learn to say and do the kinds of things Jesus said and did as we apprentice under him in every facet of our lives.”

C.S. Lewis – “If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.”
If your heart is troubled, pray the Lord’s prayer.
(Matthew 6:9-13)
