Listen Like Your Life Depends On It.
Here’s a dumb joke: what has ears but doesn’t listen? Corn.
Here’s a painful reality: what has ears but doesn’t listen? Someone who lacks empathy.
We’ve all had the devastating experience of telling someone how a particular incident made us feel, only for them to turn around and invalidate our emotions or offer a condescendingly simple solution.
But sometimes we have the life-giving experience of opening up to someone who has the seemingly magical quality of making us feel heard. Interestingly enough, these people often offer no solution to what’s grieving us. Instead, they just grieve with us.
This week, we continue our God and the Movies series by examining a story about characters with wildly different temperaments learning to create spaces for each other to safely sit in the feelings sparked by the reality of their situation.
Other texts in this message: Proverbs 17:17, Hebrews 4:15, Hebrews 2:18, Proverbs 18:13, Hebrews 4:16, Galatians 6:2
