“Getting God’s Ear”

SPEAKER: Troy Champ

When something goes wrong in your life what’s your first response? Is it prayer or panic? Often, instead of praying, we combat anxiety with information and conversation. James asks us to do something else: Pray. James says people who do God’s will have God’s ear. As we learn to pray to our Father in heaven, we can trust God’s character, not particular outcomes. It’s one thing to trust God to answer your prayers, it’s another thing to trust God to answer your prayers however he thinks best. If a good father desires to respond to his children with love, good gifts, and provision; how much more the Good, Good, Infinite Father? His response has little to do with our strength, but has everything to do with His character. When you go to God, you’ve got his ear, but more importantly—you can trust his heart.

HOMEWORK

James says people who do God’s will have God’s ear. There’s something potent about the prayers of people who do God’s will, who trust God, and are devoted to Him. “The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with.” (James 5:16 MSG) Are your prayers something to be reckoned with? If you think no, don’t be discouraged. God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things. This week, you have three assignments: 1. “Get your junk together” in Jesus. Take a careful look at your life – is there any area not turned toward God? 2. Pray – intentionally and specifically bring the things that are bothering you to God. 3. Find someone to pray for you – and pray for them, too.
