The Fortunate Unfortunate

Blessed are those who know they need God.
People chase the American Dream—financial independence, superb health, professional success—hoping to obtain “the good life” those things promise. But what if the pursuit of happiness leads elsewhere? In our series The Good Life, we’ll examine the Beatitudes of Jesus—his announcement of good news to a hurting world—and discover the life blessed by God.

Homework

Receive His grace and respond with gratitude. Most of us completely ignore all the blessings in our life. As John Ortberg put it “Gratitude is the ability to experience life as a gift. It opens us up to wonder, delight, and humility. It makes our hearts generous. Gratitude is not something we give God because he wants to make sure we know how much trouble he went to over us. Gratitude is the gift God gives us that enables us to be blessed by all his other gifts, the way our taste buds enable us to enjoy the gift of food.”

Read Psalm 25; this is a prayer to God written by David, who knows he needs God
