SPEAKER: Tara Ross
Meekness is often a scary word in our culture, connoting ideas of weakness and passiveness. In Matthew 5:5, Jesus states, “blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the world.” Jesus challenges our modern day associations with the word meek and calls us to understand that his definition of meekness is a gentle, humble, God-centered strength. The meek person chooses to respond with self-control. They use their power to say “no” to their ego and selfish ambition and “yes” to gentleness and humility.
HOMEWORK
Practice the spiritual disciple of “slowing”. John Ortberg defines this practice as “cultivating patience by deliberately choosing to place ourselves in positions where we simply have to wait.”
