A Note from Pastor Troy

After partnering with Creekside Christian Fellowship in Park City for almost 10 years, we are thrilled to share that the Creekside community is going to merge with Capital Church! Both our teams and our boards have put much thought and prayer into this possibility for many years and we are elated the time has come. God is on the move!

Thank you for joining us on the journey as we lead people to become Christ-Centered disciples. I can’t wait to see what God is going to do next!

Grace & Peace,

How & Why

  • How did this merger idea come about?

Capital Church and Creekside Christian Fellowship have been ministry partners for 10 years. During this time, our lead pastors Troy Champ and Gordy Byers have developed a deep spiritual friendship—a crucial part of our partnership. Gordy and Troy’s shared theology and abiding passion to make apprentices of Jesus have laid the groundwork for a shared vision of a community whose mission is to make Christ-centered disciples.

Over the past decade, Capital and Creekside’s callings to make disciples in Park City have only grown stronger. At multiple points throughout our partnership, we have jointly entertained the possibility of merging our two churches. The leadership of both communities have discerned that the time has now come. We believe God has unified our leadership teams by equipping us with a shared vision that makes us better together, as we continue to join God in what he is doing in the Park City area.

  • What is the structure of this merger?

In this kind of church merger, Capital is what is called the lead church, and Creekside is the joining church. Creekside’s ministry will become a part of Capital Church, embracing Capital’s vision and values.

  • What are the benefits of this merger?

Gordy, Troy, and their respective teams believe we will be able to do more to reach the community of Park City together than either church could do on our own. With the shared vision of leading people to become Christ-centered disciples, our communities can serve together in unity, combining resources to build a stronger ministry.

Leadership & People

  • Will our church have a new name and what will it be?

The Creekside community will no longer be called Creekside Christian Fellowship. It will become Capital Church Park City. This will take place through a legal dissolution of Creekside in its organizational merger with Capital.

  • Who will be our lead pastor?

Troy Champ will continue to serve as the Lead Pastor of Capital Church in both Park City and Salt Lake locations.
  • What will happen to Creekside’s lead pastor?

Troy and Gordy have shared many conversations about Gordy’s gifts and passions—as well as what God wants to do through him in the next chapter of his ministry. We are excited that Gordy will join the Capital staff as an Associate Pastor, serving in the areas of discipleship, small groups, and pastoral care.
  • What will happen to Creekside’s church board and committees?

Creekside’s existing board and committees will be legally dissolved. Capital Church’s board of directors will serve as the board for both Park City and Salt Lake City locations.

Operations & Facilities

  • What is a multisite church?

Many people think “multisite” means “video messages.” That is not how Capital Church will function at its Park City Campus. Capital’s weekend speaker will give the message in-person at all of our weekend gatherings, including Park City. If you are a part of Creekside and would like to experience a Capital Church service, you may attend Saturday nights in Park City at 5:00pm, or in Salt Lake on Saturdays at 6:45pm or Sundays at 9:15am or 11:00am. You can also watch previously recorded weekend services anytime on Capital’s YouTube page, or tune in live online at 9:15am on Sunday mornings.

  • What will the worship services be like?

In-person teaching and worship will be held every weekend in Park City. A Capital Church service includes worship and teaching for adults, as well as Kids Ministry (newborn-5th grade) and Students Ministry (6-12th grade), which provide age-appropriate discipleship teaching and community-building environments for our children.
  • What will happen to the church’s facilities?

Capital Church will assume ownership of the current Creekside building. Capital celebrates the legacy that comes with this beautiful building! It has served as the home to Capital’s Park City location for almost 10 years, and Capital considers it a privilege to steward the facility, as God continues to work through it as he has over the last 25 years!
  • How will the sermons be delivered?

There will not be a separate teaching pastor for our Park City location. All sermons will be delivered in-person by the same speaker at each of Capital’s weekend gatherings.
  • How will the budget and finances be managed?

With merging Creekside to Capital Church, the responsibility of Creekside’s finances will transition to Capital Church. The Capital Church board of directors, its Executive Pastor, and finance team will manage the finances of the Capital Park City campus, just as they currently do for Capital’s existing Park City campus.
  • What will happen to Creekside’s supported missionaries and organizations?

Capital Church commits to giving 10% of its annual income to its Compassion Ministry budget. Capital supports multiple missionaries and ministries both locally and around the globe. Capital has a committee who reviews financial gifts to compassion ministry partners annually and reports to our board of directors for final decisions.

The majority of those funds are used to support Capital Cares. Capital Cares serves people in need, as we hope to create a world where everyone is seen as an irreplaceable individual with immeasurable value. The Capital Cares goods distribution program works in direct partnership with World Vision to address underserved communities. You can learn more about this ministry at the Capital Cares website.

Creekside has been longtime supporters of Jason and Jen Byers, who serve as missionaries to Thailand. Capital is excited to continue to maintain the same monthly financial support to the Byers’ ministry for the foreseeable future!

  • What are the financial components of the merger?

There are several fiscal elements that have been thoughtfully and prayerfully considered during this process:

    • Gordy will join Capital’s team as an associate pastor and receive a compensation package.
    • Capital currently leases space from Creekside to hold Saturday evening gatherings. With the merger, Capital will take on the financial responsibility of the mortgage and expenses of faithfully maintaining the Park City building.
    • The funds Capital currently allocates toward leasing the Creekside building will become part of the mortgage payment.
    • Capital Church will fund the ongoing operations of Creekside’s ministry through the end of the year, and any remaining funds will maintain donor designation to Park City ministry under Capital Church’s leadership.
    • Capital is covering the expenses for the legal merger of our two church communities, including title insurance, legal fees, and any other expenses that arise.

Logistics & Next Steps

  • What will change in our two communities with this merger?

Creekside and Capital will continue to host their current Park City weekend services as they are now through the end of the year. Any changes to service schedules will begin in January 2026.

The leadership teams of both communities are considering the details of small group life, post-church lunches, and the future of ministry together, as God forms us into a unified community. Gordy will no longer serve as lead pastor of Creekside, but will join the Capital team as an associate pastor, as he helps shepherd the integration of both church communities.

Capital Park City will periodically host meals after its services, as Creekside has done. These meals have served as a significant means of creating community, and we look forward to seeing how God continues to build relationships among our merging communities in the days ahead!

  • What are my next steps?

First—please pray! Pray that our people from both communities will grow as apprentices of Jesus through this merger. As you pray, ask God how he wants you to invest your time, talents, and resources to help us create a lasting impact for the kingdom of God in Park City.

Consider serving as a volunteer to help create environments in which people of all ages and demographics can experience and be transformed by the love of Jesus.

You may also consider giving a financial gift to help offset the expenses of this merger and invest in our shared future.

Additionally, January will be a perfect time to invite a friend to church. Whether they’ve never belonged to a church or they’ve just gotten out of the habit of living in community with other disciples of Jesus, this new season of ministry could be the beginning of a new season of life with Jesus!

On 19, Troy will share what it means to Partner with others and Invest your time, talent, and resources into the vision of discipleship at Capital. Also, he will join Creekside after service on October 26 for the community lunch!

Throughout the year, Capital offers a class called NEXT, which is a 3-week introduction to Capital’s ministry. Over the years, Capital has found it to be a meaningful way for individuals and families to integrate into the life of the Capital community. We plan to host this course in Park City in early 2026.

  • What is happening to the current services in Park City?

Creekside will continue their current gathering on Sunday mornings at 10:30am, and Capital will continue their 5:00pm Saturday evening gathering through the end of the year. Over the next few months, we will discern the times of our shared weekend services. We will keep you posted!
